The Proposal

So, rather than re-writing the story of the proposal as we remember it now (a year later), we decided to paste the email that Mel wrote to our families that night when we got back to the room.  We had just opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate and there's really no better way to describe it...

Short story...

Tony proposed tonight!
I said yes.

Long story...

It was absolutely perfect. We've had an amazing day today!!

We got up and had breakfast in our hotel, then we got ready to head out for the day. We went back to Notre Dame (we went a couple of days ago but we discovered that my camera was on the wrong setting and I wanted to get some more pictures) and then headed up towards the Louvre. It was closed, but we got some lunch and sat out in the gardens. It was cold, but beautiful. Then we made our way up to the Champs-Elysees and finally to the Arc de Triomphe and went up top. You can see forever from there. Very beautiful.

We got on the metro and headed towards Montmartre and the Sacre Cour. We grabbed some dinner at a nearby restaurant and then headed up the hill towards Sacre Coeur (a magnificient HUGE church). They say (and I read) that the most beautiful view in Paris is to sit on the steps of the Sacre Coeur and watch the sunset over the Eiffel Tower as the lights come on in the city. We were sitting up there for a little while and then the crowds started to die near where we were. We were sitting on a ledge near some steps and he said "it's time for you to get over here". He hopped off the ledge and got down on one knee. Tony was in front of me, the Sacre Couer on my right, the Eiffel Tower behind Tony, and the city of Paris to my left. It coldn't have been any more perfect. There was a really sweet girl about our age that was nearby and she took some pictures for us. Then, we recreated the proposal and took some pictures of that too. :)

We finished watching the sun go down - it was freezing but I didn't want to go. We took the metro back to our hotel and stopped at a nearby market to get some champagne (which is currently chilling in the sink with some ice packs...).

Needless to say...it has been a perfect day.

I love you all so much...thank you to each one of you for everything you have done for us. We wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the support and love you have shown us.

Can't wait to get back home and share everything!

Miss you. Hugs and kisses!

Mel

PS: The ring is more beautiful than I have ever dreamed it would be! :)
